Modern Family review

An urban family sitcom as the name implies, Modern Family, created and aired by ABC is an all extended family comedy series trying to put the fun in dysfunctional with its wonderfully spectacular characters.

The hit comedy series has bagged 22 Emmy Awards (five for outstanding TV series straight from 2010 t0 2014). We are shown the dynamics of an intertwined large family rolling through the banks of children’s growing phases, adoption and same sex relationships.

Starring in the series are the Dunphys played by Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell, while spear heading the family is Jay Pritchett who is married to a very loud and obnoxious Sophia Vergara. Jay has two grown children who has thier own families, mentioned above.

The affection the parents have for the kids is mainly pin pointed in almost the whole series as they begin with little qualms at the start of an episode and ends with the entire family resolving their differences, a little similar to the dynamics of Blackish if you observe closely though they are not related in any way.

The finale was rolled out in April 2020 as the kids move on to the next stage of their lives while the Dunphy parents face the precepts of old age and an empty house. Modern Family is ABC’s idea of what an urban family should be, light hearted and filled with love, and maybe a little crazy.
